The classification scheme is concerned exclusively with impervious surfaces or those features that impede the infiltration of water. Impervious Surface area polygons are defined as those man-made features containing materials through which water cannot penetrate. These may include materials such as concrete, asphalt, clays, limestone and roofing materials. There are seventeen categories in the classification scheme.
