A heat wave is defined as 3 or more days in which the maximum temperature (TX) &amp;gt; the 90th percentile, where the percentiles are calculated based on the baseline period specified by the user. HWM is the average temperature of all heat waves identified by HWN.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Amplitude of heat wave (HWA), defined by the 90th percentile of TX. HWA is the maximum daily value in the hottest heat wave (defined as the heat wave with the highest HWM).&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Number of heat waves (HWN), defined by the 90th percentile of TX. HWN is the number of individual heat waves that occur each summer (from May to September in the northern hemisphere). &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Duration of heat wave (HWD), defined by the 90th percentile of TX. HWD is the length of the longest heat wave identified by HWN.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Frequency of heat waves (HWF), defined by the 90th percentile of TX.
