Sightings data for this species comes from the Atlantic Canada Shorebird Survey (ACSS). These surveys take place every year and generally take place from July 20 – November 20 with some exceptions to catch spring migration (April 20-June 9). Every ten days volunteers will visit their designated sites to count and identify all shorebird observations. Data is collected throughout the field season and then sent to the Atlantic Canada Shorebird Survey coordinator or uploaded by volunteers via the online data entry portal after the season has finished. This layer represents the Buff-Breasted Sandpiper observations. Surveys are typically conducted during winter months of January, February, and March, though species may be present from October through April. Therefore, survey data may not represent complete distributions of these species. Additional survey data are available outside of this date range and from other survey platforms (i.e. vessels).
