<idAbs><DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><P><SPAN>This dataset represents wetlands included in Vermont's Significant Wetlands Inventory (WaterWetlands_VSWI). Questions about wetland location and use should be referred to the ANR DEC Wetlands section, 802-244-6951. NWI maps were used by the State of Vermont Agency of Natural resources as a means of creating this data layer in conjunction with the VSWI. The NWI and VSWI were joined by a union, to create the new 2010 Vermont Significant Wetland Inventory data layer, representing Vermont's regulatory wetlands. The VSWI prior to 2010 was created by hand digitizing nearly two-thirds of Vermont's wetlands from RF 24000 scale NWI mylars. The remainder of the state was scanned from RF 24000 or RF 25000 scale mylars.These mylars were created by transfering wetland polygon boundaries from RF 62500 scale NWI mylars to RF 24000 scale base maps.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></idAbs>

<measDesc>This is a digital "representation" of Vermont's Significant Wetlands Inventory. The majority of the wetlands were derrived from NWI maps and prior VSWI data layers which were digitized from USFWS NWI maps. The 2008 National Wetland Inventory was unioned with the VSWI layer of 2009. The two datasets were then dissolved based on their class and all attributes of the NWI and VSWI were kept where unique. The wetlands in the WaterWetlands_VSWI coverage are mainly palustrine complexes (regulatory). A smaller subset of the data define riverine and lacustrine wetland complexes (regulatory). Single line streams are not included. The wetlands in this coverage are those regarded as regulatory by the VT Water Resources Board. They correspond to the outer boundaries of palustine areas mapped by the USFWS NWI section with the following exceptions (includes some riverine and lacustrine wetlands). See Feature Accuracy for details on the accuracy of the source maps.This data layer is intended for planning and informational use, to alert the public to the presence of regulated wetlands. This data layer is not designed to be used as sole criteria in any decision making process. <measDesc>The wetland boundaries are very approximate due to the methods used to generate the original maps. Errors of as much as 500 meters have been observed when clearly identifyable boundaries were plotted over RF 5000 scale orthophotos. Most boundaries are expected to be within several hundred meters of their true locations. However, not all wetlands appear on the NWI maps, and some non-wetland areas may appear as wetlands. Review of the NWI maps by the Wetlands Office of the VT Agency of Natural Resources has shown that only a very small percentage (estimated at 1-2%) of the wetlands on the NWI maps are not found on the ground; many of these have been filled in since the 1977 inventory. It is also estimated that there are about 25% more wetlands than appear on the NWI maps, most of these being below 3 acres in size (often closed-canopy wetlands or open water). Discrepancies have been noted between the original 1977 NWI maps and a more recent inventory along the Connecticut river. For more information on the accuracy and use of the NWI maps, contact the Wetlands Office of the Agency of Natural Resources</measDesc>

<attrvae>
The attribute is a single integer representing the wetland class.
(1) Wetlands that, based on an evaluation of the functions, are exceptional or irreplacable in their contribution to Vermont's natural heritage and are therefore so significant that they merit the highest level of protection under these rules.(2) Wetlands, other than Class One wetlands that, based on an evaluation of the functions, are so significant, either taken alone or in conjunction with other wetlands, that they merit protection under these rules.(3) Wetlands that have not been determined by the Board to be so significant that they merit protection under these rules either because they have not been evaluated or because when last evaluated, were determined not to be sufficiently significant to merit protection under these rules.
