The project level LEED data was analyzed by Northern Virginia Regional Commission to identify LEED commercial buildings and space. Site locations can have more than one LEED certified project. For those locations with more than one project, the data was narrowed down to represent one record if the site's entire building was completely certified. For those locations with more than one project and no LEED certification project for an entire building, the data was narrowed down to a record for each LEED certified interior space within a building. After narrowing down the data to buildings and interior spaces, the earliest date of certification for the location and the square footage of space currently LEED certified was determined by cross tabulating and cross checking those locations with multiple records. The certified buildings included in this list represent commercial buildings only. Note, apartment and condominium buildings are classified as commercial buildings. Confidential building projects are not included. Addresses were geocoded using the Virginia Geographic Information Networks (VGIN) geocoding service. Those projects that did not have an address match using VGIN, were geocoded using the ESRI ArcGIS World geocoding service. For purposes of providing the most accurate locational data, the geocoded locations and building addresses were adjusted as necessary based on internet research performed by the Northern Virginia Regional Commission and utilization of Open Street Maps building polygons.
