Service Description: The Tree Canopy Equity Priority Index was developed to provide a tool to evaluate level of tree canopy need, measured as the census tract level. This tool is meant for use in policy development and to provide guidance on focus areas for canopy expansion activities. It assigns a priority rating (low, medium, high, or very high) to census tracts based on a comprehensive assessment of the following three areas: physical need, environmental exposure, and socio-demographic conditions.
Produced by City Planning’s Office of Forest Management as part of the City’s first Urban Forest Management Plan. See the City’s Urban Forest Management Plan for more information on the index methodology.
