This dataset divides the county into Survey Townships (36 sq. miles) and Sections (1 sq. mile). It is the foundational grid used for legal descriptions in Florida. Each section is identified by its Section, Township, and Range (STR) coordinates. The Nassau County PLSS framework was originally established via a professional consultancy project aimed at creating a high-precision digital GIS parcel map. This foundational project involved establishing geodetic control and incorporating recorded deeds to compile a complete countywide framework. Unlike a static grid, this layer is a living dataset. As new plats are recorded and the Nassau County Property Appraiser's Office (NCPAO) GIS Department receives updated survey information, the PLSS polylines are adjusted to reflect these new measurements. This ensures the framework maintains optimal alignment with current survey-grade data and provides a reliable base for the county’s cadastral mapping.
