Fire_Stations_2019_Partial_Data_Set (FeatureServer)

View In:   Map Viewer

Service Description: To construct this dataset, the IAFC acts as both data collector and data aggregator. When available, the IAFC uses high-quality state and local information to populate portions of this dataset. When such data is not available, the IAFC attempts to collect primary data through its network of fire service leaders. Data completeness will vary between regions, based on several factors. At a minimum, the IAFC seeks to know the name of each fire station and its physical location. When coordinates are not available from the local level, the IAFC will generate them based on the physical address of the building. The IAFC will build this dataset over time, and it will release new data periodically. Construction of this dataset will be a multi-year effort, due in large part to the highly decentralized nature of the fire service. The vast majority of U.S. fire departments are either agencies of local municipalities, or non-profit corporations run by volunteers. While many states maintain lists of active local fire departments, few track the fire stations that those fire departments operate. As the data collection and aggregation improves and the dataset builds over time, the IAFC will seek to add attributes to the data model. This dataset contains state-wide data from the following states: Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Mississippi, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Tennessee.
