Description: The meander belt hazard is based on measured bank full width (BFW) multiplied by a standardized factor of x10 either side of the bank edge (BFWx10). Where a bank full measurement cannot be determined through air photo interpretation, a default width of 1.5m (0.75m to either side of the creek centre line) will used in the analysis. The meander belt is represented as a standard buffer of the creek feature and should not be considered equivalent to an engineering meander belt assessment. Where there is overlap of the meander belt hazard with the stable top of bank hazard, the stable top of bank takes precedence. The meander belt width may be modified through internal review by Conservation Halton staff or the inclusion of site-specific fluvial geomorphological assessments. Piped Systems – Where a watercourse is piped within a municipal road right-of-way, the meander belt width is adjusted as necessary so that the meander belt width plus allowance will be contained within the limits of the right-of-way.
