Service Description: The CalEnviroScreen data provides a scale to assess which areas across California are most affected by pollution using data aggregated into two broad categories: Pollution Burden and Population Characteristics. Pollution Burden looks at factors such as air quality, proximity to point sources and hazardous waste facilities, traffic density, and tap water quality. Population Characteristics focuses on identifying those communities that are disproportionately affected by pollution due to underlying health risk factors or socioeconomic indicators such as asthma, cardiovascular disease, poverty levels, and unemployment rates. These are important considerations to take when planning to build housing in an equitable fashion. The data will therefore help guide development in a way that will be beneficial to the health of local communities.
