Those layers include the Potomac Heritage Trail, historic sites along the water front, boat launches, parks, wildlife refuges and preserves, shoreline distance buffers, and geomorphological physical characteristic sites. The shoreline distance buffers represent distances as the crow flies and only include areas within Virginia. The buffer population figures are sourced from ESRI 2019 Vintage Estimates. Wildlife Refuges and Preserves are extracted from the NVRC parks GIS layer. Parks and Historic Sites along the Potomac are extracted from the NVRC parks and historic sites GIS layers. The geomorphological physical characteristic sites represent five sites along the Potomac of varying geomorphology.
