The regions are classified as the following:
1.Southern California
2. Southern Sierra
3. Northern Sierra
4. Big Ben
5. Columbia Cascades
6. North Cascades
Each region was split up into five subregions of equal trail length. They are labeled a through e, with a at the southern most extent of the region and e at the northern most extent.
